Premier Health Chiropractic Of Bloomington Clinic

Dr. Douglas Kaster grew up on a farm in Wisconsin. Dr. Kaster recalls, "I have wanted to be a chiropractor since I was about 8 years old. My Dad got hurt at work and started treatments with my cousin who is a chiropractor. Our whole family became patients of his and experienced firsthand the benefits of chiropractic."

"Watching my dad get better through chiropractic had a tremendous impact on me at a very young age." Even at that early age, Dr. Kaster thought he would make a great chiropractor. "My cousin the chiropractor always said I asked difficult questions about anatomy at such a young age."

Believes in Chiropractic Education

He became a chiropractor through his cousins. "My oldest cousin went to Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa and married a chiropractor. He came home and they practiced with her dad who was also a chiropractor. Shortly after that, my cousin's sister and brother went to Palmer to become chiropractors, too. Soon, another cousin followed them into the profession. Then I went."

He chose to attend Palmer College of Chiropractic, because all of his cousins attended that college. Recently he recalled, "When I visited that school I got wrapped up in the history of the Profession."

Three major chiropractic influences on Dr. Kaster are:

  1. "Dr. Lloyd Olson, god rest his soul, was a fantastic teacher and mentor of compassion and listening."
  2. Dr. Mitchell Mally of Davenport, Iowa was a teacher of extremity adjusting from whom he learned great technique.
  3. Last but not least: "My cousin who started it all, Dr. Richard Pensis of Shawano, Wisconsin who taught me about the importance of getting regular chiropractic care."

Chiropractic Philosophy Is All About You

Premier Health Bloomington Chiropractors Believe In Education

Dr. Kaster chose to become a chiropractor because it is never boring. "People are interesting and tend to bring all sorts of tough cases my way. It is my job to help them solve the problem. I look at my job as a new puzzle to try and solve every day. Helping people solve these problems is rewarding and fun."

The three most important things you need to know about chiropractic are:

  1. First, it is safe.
  2. Second, chiropractic is important for optimal health.
  3. Third, it's like brushing your teeth — it's not a once in a while thing — it's a lifestyle.

The skills required of a chiropractor according to Dr. Kaster are:

  1. Listening
  2. Patience
  3. Caring
  4. Time management
  5. Adjusting ability
  6. Drive

As Dr. Kaster often says, "Successful chiropractors have drive, vision and never quit. The best piece of advice I could give an aspiring chiropractor can be summed up in one word … perserverence."

"What distinguishes me from other chiropractors in this area? I went to Palmer College in Davenport and not to the Local College at Northwestern in Bloomington, Minnesota. I am very good at what I do! Chiropractors in this area do not do much extremity work on the wrists, elbows, ankles and knee. And if they do, they are not as effective at it as I am."

Chiropractic Techniques Are Effective

Premier Health Bloomington Chiropractors Are All About You

What does a chiropractor do? First, a chiropractor detects nerve blockages and interference with normal nerve function. Then he frees these blockages so the body can function at an optimum level. "My education helps me in practice everyday in ways I never imagined. When I review patient results with them I trace the nerve pathways just like I did in school and give the patient a true understanding of how their body works."

Dr. Kaster's chiropractic style is characterized by full spine and extremity adjusting. He addresses the major stressors or injury sites, then formulates a plan of treatment to address those weaknesses.

"How do I treat a condition? It is not simply treating the condition. What I do as a chiropractor is find the source of blockage or nerve interference and then I open up that blockage allowing the body to heal itself."

  • Dr. Kaster favors the Palmer method with the Diversified technique: full-spine manipulation employing a variety of other techniques. "I learned a wide range of adjusting techniques at Palmer which help me adjust every type of patient with any kind of problem that walks through my door."
  • "We use the Proadjustor on my elderly patients because it is a less invasive technique on arthritic spines. It works great and they love it."
  • The Mally technique is used on the feet ankles, wrists and elbows. Getting all of the extremities adjusted is vital to overall body function and is a driving principle in this clinic.

What conditions to we treat? Among the everyday complaints this clinic treats, we successfully relieve:

  1. Headaches

Chiropractic Success Depends on Your Success

"I decided to get into business for myself because my dad owned a farm," Dr. Kaster remembers. "The most important contribution to my success has been the positive support of my family through the years. The thing I like most about our chiropractic office is hearing that we as a team have had a positive impact on someones life.

"My favorite success story is the elderly widower who had foot and back pain. She was down and out and talked often about her husband who loved to golf. After a few visits I knew that not only did I need to help her with her back and feet, but I had to get her out golfing again. I told her that her husband would be upset that she was not using her skills that he taught her all those years before when he taught her how to golf. The next week she signed up for her local women's golf league. She has won the title the past two years. She is a regular patient now who comes in to get 'tuned up' prior to her rounds of golf."
